Find a setting on Android

Settings groups controls under Profile, Plan, Preferences, and Help and about. Profile includes devices and Second life. Preferences contains Privacy and security, Notifications, Backup and restore, Display, and Server. Find guides and diagnostics under Help and about.

Disappearing messages

New chats start with disappearing messages Off on Free and Pro, unless you've saved a Pro default or chosen Hardened. Hardened uses 8 hours unless you've saved a shorter timer. Off leaves existing chat timers as they are. Open a chat, tap the title, then Disappearing messages. Off, 5 min, 8 hours, 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year. When a message expires it takes its photos and voice notes with it. Copies already on other phones stay there.

App lock

Turn on Lock when backgrounded in Settings, under Privacy and security on iPhone and Android. Leaving SILNT locks access to chats and the wallet. Opening the app again requires authentication, even when your iPhone is already unlocked. The usual app lock accepts your biometrics or device passcode.

Lockdown

Turn on Lockdown to require your enrolled Face ID or Touch ID to reopen SILNT. Your device passcode alone will not open locked chats, and message previews are turned off. Save your recovery phrase and an encrypted backup first. Changing your enrolled biometrics can prevent access to local history.

Keep previews off

Message previews are off by default. Turning them on allows messages to be read for notifications without unlocking SILNT. Leave them off for stronger protection if someone gains access to your phone.

Know the limits

App locking protects a locked SILNT session. It cannot guarantee safety on a phone with a compromised operating system, or if someone has access while SILNT is already open. Some wallet records depend on the phone's own security.

Incognito keyboard

On iPhone, turn on Incognito keyboard in Settings, under Privacy and security, to switch off autocorrection and spell check in SILNT, so the keyboard learns less of what you type. Apple doesn't promise it learns nothing. On Android, SILNT always asks the keyboard not to learn.

Erase local data

Erase removes local keys and app data for every life on the phone. On your main phone it also releases each life's @handle and removes its mailbox and Lightning address from our server. If something can't be removed, SILNT says what and offers Try again. Review the confirmation carefully, including whether to keep your encrypted iCloud backups. Back up anything you need first.
